Check was in the mail.
The Governor’s 8th Biennial is at the Dahl Art Center in Rapid City, SD through August 17th. I must have sold my piece out there because I just received a check from the Dahl. Pretty cool. I have been in many group shows over the years and rarely have I sold any work. That is one of the reasons why when I decided to take the leap and go out on my own I have not gone the gallery route. I have never had a lot of luck with sales in that setting. I don’t know, I could be wrong. I often am when it comes to the art world.
I have had different ideas in my head for many years about being an artist and what that means to me. I have made my living as an artists working for someone else in one fashion or another. Always concerned about a steady paycheck. Never before in my life have I felt more legit than right now. My studio is my place of business. People are buying my work. I am slowly getting out of substitute teaching and needing the security of a “steady paycheck” less and less. Of course I can not deny being married and having a second income helps. He pays the rent on where we live and I pay the rent on my studio. I don’t have to teach anymore or work at places that have work space/equipment included. I am in awe of the young people starting out who have the good sense to work for themselves right out of the gate. They give me inspiration and courage. I can do this thing called art. Good thing because I am an artist.
